Government denies tax rebate to Apple

The Finance Ministry dismissed Apple's demand for tax concessions to install the iPhone's manufacturing unit in the country, stating that the matter would be raised before the GST Council. However, the American company has indicated that it is setting up a manufacturing unit in India this year. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha in the Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology said that Apple has sought tax concessions for the next 15 years to set up a manufacturing unit in India. It includes repair supplies, parts for tomorrow, supplies for other smartphones.

Chaudhary said that the Department of Revenue did not accept these demands after testing them. He said that the new indirect tax is going to come up, in this case all the import will be done under IGST and the exemption can be given only on the recommendation of the GST Council.
